Do the right thing, today.

This afternoon I was reading through a notebook that I keep.  In it I write down little quotes or sayings of inspirations that I discover from other writers and bloggers.  Some have been the subject of posts on this site.

I stumbled across this one that caught my eye.  It was written in my notebook this past June:

Maybe the past was squandered in foolish pursuits, but that is no excuse for not pursuing the right things now and in the future.

When I looked at the reference to see who wrote that profound statement, the initials “JFS” were scribbled.

Dang!  I wrote that pithy statement!

It is true.  I believe it.  No matter how awful our past mistakes – No matter how terrible life was to us -  No matter how wounded we’ve become as the result of others’ wrong behavior.

We have the opportunity to change.  We have today.  We can decide who we want to be.  We can throw off the shackles of yesterday and live a new life.  We have the power available to do so.  It takes faith and strength – something we all were created with.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12: 1-2

Throw off those things that entangle you – the lies and limitations of the past.  Run with perseverance the race that you were meant to run, not one that the world dictates.

It all starts today.  Do the right thing today.  Take that small step in the right direction.  You can do it!
